The harmful effects of alkaloids
This is pointed out by the government website Rappel Conso these traces of tropane alkaloids would come from Datura. Datura is a herbaceous plant found in fields. However, the toxin to be feared is mainly in the seeds.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture even “very small amounts” enough to cause poisoning. According to the same source, the alkaloids found in Datura can cause Anticholinergic or atropine syndrome.
This is initially manifested by peripheral disorders such as dilated pupils and accommodation disorders. Then one could identify central disturbances, namely restlessness, confusion or hallucinations.
Poisoning can be moderate or severe
However, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, the poisoning can be moderate and last between 8 and 12 hours. On the other hand, she is strict and last 2 to 3 days. In this case, the dilatation of the pupil takes time to disappear.
These aren’t the only symptoms that we can observe. You may notice dry mouth, but other symptoms as well. Such as visual disturbances, spatiotemporal disorientation or incoherent speech.
