Renault Zoe or Mégane E-Tech: our exclusive numbers to make the right choice

Since unveiling the electric R5 concept and announcing its arrival in 2024, there’s no doubt that the Zoé will retire this year. To tell the truth, Renault’s city car is already losing momentum (-25% of sales between January and June), probably already in competition with the Mégane E-Tech. Because since the entry of a 40 kWh battery next to the “EV60” in the catalog The Losange compact starts at 37,200 euros without premiums, i.e. 3,500 euros more than an aging Zoé despite its skilful restyling in summer 2019. More modern in form and content, much more pleasant to drive, the Mégane E-Tech combines the qualities and therefore easily finds its audience. But that’s to forget that Zoé still makes serious arguments. So between these two sisters, depending on the usage, there is something to think about.

One Zoé still in play

First of all, we must remember that the Zoé is also available in two versions. If its battery has a capacity of 52 kWh in all cases, the R110 has 110 hp and the R135…135 hp. The small difference in purchase between these two models would favor the R135 but the small R110 benefits from a flange to gain autonomy. According to our independent measurements, it’s just under 400 km in the city, around twenty more than the R135 version. It is also and above all almost 100 km more than the Mégane EV40 ! And all this with plenty of power. If your usage is limited to urban use, there is no doubt that a Zoe R110 is for you.

On the other hand, the Mégane E-Tech remains preferable for those who travel longer distances on a daily basis, between big cities and suburbs or even in rural areas. Because without shining in the city, The Mégane EV60, on the other hand, offers a good autonomy on road and highway, really surpassing the Zoé. Of course, the price goes up again, as the 60kWh variant of the Mégane asks at least €40,200 before premiums, but the investment also allows parts of the road to be tackled much more smoothly.

Conclusion: Zoé R110 for the city, Mégane E-Tech EV60 for the road

If you are looking for a small electric car for the city, The Zoé R110 stays in the game thanks to good autonomy in urban areas. So it’s preferable to a Mégane EV40 as long as we don’t fall for the latter’s digital universe, which has something for everyone. Conversely, if you are looking for a versatile electric vehicle capable of swallowing a few servings of fast lanes without melting autonomy at a glance, it’s the Mégane EV60 you need, which offers a good fifty kilometers more than either the Zoe or the Mégane EV40.
