School supplies: buy now or wait a few days before the start of the school year?
School materials have been on offer since the end of June/beginning of July. Is it better to buy them now or wait until the end of the month to take advantage of the cheapest prices?
It’s a “nightmare” vision for the students. In the middle of summer, in the middle of the holidays, the supermarket shelves are full of duplicate copies, 21 x 29.7 cm notebooks, folders, pens or transparent sleeves.
If the pupils don’t even have their heads by the start of the school year – scheduled for September 1st – the parents might think a little longer. Catalog promotions begin this Monday, August 8th in most major retailers. With prices rising every month, should we already stock up or wait for promotions a few days before the start of the school year?
All students had the list of the most important school materials at the end of the school year, at the end of June. The purchase of materials is therefore already possible, which does not prevent you from making some additional purchases after the start of the school year.
Promotions are now
“It’s better to buy the stocks by the end of the month at the latest,” recommends Olivier Dauvers, a specialist in wholesale distribution, in an interview with The midi dispatch. “The promotions of the catalogs of signs will end at the end of August. From September, deliveries will be more expensive, that’s for sure. There will be no more promotions.” He adds: “Catalogue prices were negotiated a few months ago and do not always include inflation, particularly for paper pulp. There’s no point in waiting.”
Immediate discounts, deferred discounts, 2+1 offered
As with every new school year, major retailers compete with each other in the trade to attract parents and their children. Leclerc announces the maintenance of 2021 prices for 200 items in 2022 and essential items for less than two euros, Auchan promises essential items for back to school for less than one euro, Carrefour announces a filled school bag for less than 15 euros, Intermarché up to -70% card advantage, Super U a low price return, Géant Casino a “maximum purchasing power” return.
School supplies are of course available in specialist shops such as Cultura, Bureau Vallée or specialist sites such as Rentrée Discount.
Instant discount, discount credited to the loyalty card, 2+1 free… Depending on the brand and the product, the discounts differ. There is therefore an essential keyword: compare prices to find the best deals!
