In a declining used car market in 2022, SUVs are not spared declining sales figures for most models. Some models like the Peugeot 3008 and 2008 remain popular with buyers while others even manage to sell more than last year.

After record sales in 2021, the used car market is running out of steam in 2022 for several reasons. On the one hand, the component crisis and geopolitical tensions are leading to a shortage of younger used vehicles that are less than 2 years old (few demonstration vehicles, rental returns, etc.). On the other hand, despite a sharp drop in available devices, demand fell sharply during this phase of inflation, which did not spare the used market either. In the first half of the year, 2.74 million used vehicles were registered, down 11.4% compared to the same period in 2021.

The vast majority of SUVs were affected

SUVs were not spared with a drop of around 8% (587,190 transactions). Our top 30 testifies to this hectic pace: A total of 25 models had to accept a drop in sales. Some falls are spectacular, like the Nissan Qashqai, which has almost a third less volume (-31.33% with 21,730 registrations in the first half of the year compared to almost 29,000 in the same period last year). The Peugeot 2008 and Renault Captur lost 7,153 and 7,958 sales respectively (-18 and -21%).

The star models

The ranking of the 5 bestsellers is therefore the same as last year.. The Peugeot 3008 is still popular second-hand and the preferred SUV with just over 50,000 units (- 8% / 2021). They are followed by the Peugeot 2008 (39,809 units), the Renault Captur (38,705 units), the Dacia Duster (26,936 units, down 11%) and the Nissan Qashqai, which, despite its decline, is ahead of the Volkswagen Tiguan.

The SUVs that stand out in the first half

Some vehicles were successful at 1^ah Half of 2022. Like the Volkswagen T-Roc and T-Cross, which are up 21% and 43% in sales, respectively. The Toyota C-HR also had a good half year with + 23%. The palm goes to the Peugeot 5008 (only the second generation because the first was a minivan), which has 50% more volume.
