Electric bike: State aid increases from Monday 15 August, who is affected?

State aid for the purchase of an electric bicycle will be increased from Monday, August 15, 2022 with additional amounts for people with disabilities or low income, according to a decree published in the Official Journal on Saturday.

The maximum premium for the purchase of an electric bicycle will be increased from 200 euros to 300 euros and is no longer dependent on the payment of a subsidy from a municipality. It is reserved for people whose taxable income per unit is less than €13,489.

For people with disabilities and those whose reference tax revenue per share is less than or equal to 6,300 euros, the subsidy for the purchase of an electric bicycle can be up to 400 euros. These people are also entitled to a higher subsidy to buy a cargo bike, a folding bike or an electric bike trailer: the maximum bonus granted to them increases to €2,000 compared to €1,000 for the other beneficiaries.

For all other types of bicycles, people with disabilities are entitled to an allowance of 40% of the purchase price, up to a maximum of €150.

Finally, for people with disabilities or low-income earners who want to part with a polluting vehicle to buy an electric bike, the maximum amount of the conversion premium is increased to 3,000 euros, compared to 1,500 euros for other beneficiaries.

These grants, which can be combined with each other and with all local grants, are valid until December 31, 2022.

From January 1, 2023, the conversion bonus will also be available to several members of the same tax household. Specifically, the state is now promoting the purchase of a bicycle for each person in the same household and no longer just one bicycle per household.
