Thanks to the accumulation of two discounts, fuel costs less than 1 euro 50 at certain petrol stations this September 1st.

FUEL – A welcome boost to start the school year. This Thursday, September 1, motorists were pleasantly surprised when the SP95-E10 liter fuel was advertised for less than €1.50.

This rate, which has not been known for almost a year, fell thanks to the accumulation of two rebates. The current state subsidy of 18 cents a liter drops to 30 cents this Thursday and through October. While TotalÉnergies adds a discount of 20 cents per liter until November 1st. According to calculations by our colleagues from the Parisianthe liter of SP95-E10 would drop from €1.74 to €1.50 at more than 1,389 French petrol stations.

Remember, unleaded 95 had passed the €2 mark earlier this year. So the surprise on this Thursday morning was bound to be great to see it at gas stations at such a low price. On the way to work, motorists shared their joy on their Twitter account.

At some stations, the prices defy all competition. “The price per liter of 95-E10 could even reach 1.28 euros in a resort in Seyssinet (Isère) and €1.29 in Villeurbanne (Rhône) and Aix-en-Provence (Bouches-du-Rhône)”add again The Parisian.

Unfortunately, this discount will not last, as Economics Minister Bruno Le Maire reminded us over the microphone at the end of July France Inter. “It’s a temporary aid, 30 cents in September and October, then 10 cents in November and December.” he hinted. And the government doesn’t plan to renew it in 2023.

A possible rush to gas stations

This monthly saving of 50 cents per liter of SP95-E10 gives at least some households a sigh of relief, while prices at the pump have been rising since mid-July. This long-awaited rebound could even lead to a rush to the gas stations, according to Francis Pousse, national president of gas stations at Mobilians, in an interview with the daily The shipping : “Some knowledgeable drivers have been waiting for this reduction to stock up on fuel. It’s even likely that that’s why we’ve made less volume in the last few days.”he explains.

Also, not all resorts are equal in terms of the rates they offer. In fact, if TotalÉnergies adds an additional 20 centimes rebate to that of the government, the smallest gas stations will not be affected and will therefore be penalized. The state will try to support them with subsidies of between 3,000 and 6,000 euros, depending on the amount of fuel sold.

Don’t expect such attractive prices for diesel at your gas stations. The average price for a liter displayed on Wednesday was €1.95, up 11 cents in a week, according to the latest figures from the Ministry of Ecological Transition. This Thursday it was around €1.83.
